What are your favorite places in northern New Hampshire?

Remember all the places you've been to as a child? Recall any field trips? Is there some special place in northern New Hampshire that you always return? Where is this place? What does it look like? What does this place sound like? What does it feel like to be there? Why is this your favorite place in the area?

  1. Winter, summer, spring or fall, I just love Mt. Washington, which has significant meaning to me and my husband. Three years ago during my February vacation, my husband and I, along with our golden retriever, Romeo hiked up the highest summit in NH. At the top on a beautiful, clear and low wind day, he proposed to me. (I guess I had to say yes if I wanted to get down the mountain:) I was surprised and extremely happy to accept his proposal. We spent half an hour sharing our visions for a small wedding (we decided to get married "On Golden Pond" and everyone would canoe to Church Island), and I kept asking about his proposal plan (I wonder how many people are proposed to on Mt. Washington - in the winter!).

  2. I love summer & Fall. During summer and fall in the Northern NH is beautiful. All the purples, reds, oranges, and yellows in the trees is such a pretty site. The green grass, and the "White Mountaintops". Nothing is better than the landscape and scenes of New Hampshire. I <3 NH

  3. The mountains are easily my favorite place to be. They are out of civilization and into the wild. Up above the northern NH lands in your own summit of utopia. I have hiked many 4000 ft. mountains with my Dad.

  4. My favorite place up here in the white mountains would have to be cannon mountain. The views are spectacular and the skiing is always good if you know the mountain. not a lot of people go there so it isn't too crowded.

  5. I like summer a lot because you can go to echo lake, go biking, go hiking, just being outside. I also like fall too because it starts getting cooler but still weather that if nice to be outside, my favorite part is the leaves when they turn because they turn bright red, orange, yellow, and green. Everywhere you look you are surrounded with lots of colored trees. HP

  7. I love the special things about New Hampshire. I like going on hikes and getting to the very top of the mountain and see what you just hiked. I really like going kayaking on rivers and tubing down rivers. I would rather be living in the city or by the beach because I don't like the cold at all, but when it is summertime in new hampshire i think it's a really nice place to be. MB

  15. I love living in the White Mountains, there isn't much to do around here which makes you think and be creative. Some of my favorite places are Echo Lake, Cannon Mountain, hiking Bald Knob or Artist Bluff, heading into the "big town" of Littleton, checking out Chutter's Candy, Littleton Bookstore, GoldHouse is a must. Being outdoors is mostly the main thing you have to do when you live around here, which is great because the scenery is absolutley beautiful and worth looking at. HA

  16. My favorite place in northern New Hampshire is Upper Falls for sure. The water is freezing, but it is so worth it to jump off the highest rock into the tumbling waterfall underneath. Swimming into the cave behind the waterfall is something that EVERYONE should do at least once. You haven’t until you've swum at Upper Falls. ES

  17. Echo lake is one of my favorite places. Also i love to go cruzing around in the car with friends during the warm weather. Mostly because this is northern New Hampshire and you DONT know what you will run into (a crazed old new englander or a moose), but also because its so beautiful up hear. RH

  18. Living in the White Mountains is always a blast. If you do not enjoy the outdoors, that could be a problem. Swimming at Echo Lake is a must in the summer. The water is frigid but it feels amazing on those hot summer days. Small hikes such as Bald Knob and Artist Bluff are always fun and quick. Longer hikes such as Lafayette or Cannon gives the most breath-taking sights you probably will ever see. Coffee pot is amazing because their food is delicious and cheap. SB

My favorite thing to watch is the truck pulls and look at all the farm animals. Also looking at all the neat new equipment is fun too such as snow machines and four wheelers. JY

  21. I think season allow people to have different favorite places in function of the seasons. For me, I love to ski on the side of the mountains during the winter. In the Spring, I play tennis with friends and we discover again the sun. During the fall, I hiked until the end of the mountains and enjoy the wonderful colors of this season. CD

  30. My favorite place is the campground! During the day you go swimming and get a wicked nice tan, then to the playground and chill out before dinner and then after dinner you start a campfire and roast marshmallows on it! On the really warm nights you tent out and find all the quarters possible so you can go to the arcade and buy lots of candy in the crazy candyland machine! RK

  33. In the summertime in the White Mountains, my favorite place to be is down the hill from my house at the dam in the river. It has a calmer bank before the water rushes through the dam and has a wide enough shoreline to play in the mud or sand. Friends and I place our towels on the sunwarmed cement of the dam and tan or sit after taking a dip in the river. We also enjoy going down the chutes from the calmer part of the river through the dam into the more choppy waters. Tubing in the river is also a fun way to play in it. The water sounds great so close to us as we lay on the dam, and it feels great in the summer heat! It can be exciting and adventurous, and it also can be calm and relaxing. The Israel River is a place I love to be when it's warm!

  35. I enjoy being out in nature, wading in a river. It's freezing cold, but the beautiful surroundings and the loud rushing water make it really pleasant. Any river is fine; a favorite spot is off of a particular hiking trail in Gorham that my family visited this year. When you're in the river, it's easy to forget about the business of civilized life.

  52. If you have ever walked through downtown Franconia on the fourth of July you will know as well as I do that it's a busy place. Families, couples, the elderly and the young stroll through the town, which has been decorated with red, white, and blue. The parade is the climax of all the festivities, and the traditional sport's shop vs. Franconia Rec water fight is always fun to watch. The duck race is also a favorite event, and Mojo's lemonade will enrich the etire experience.

The Rocks Estate feels to be a second home to me. As a child I would return from school, pack up a bag of goodies such as my American Doll and a Peanut Butter and Jelly then make the hike up to The Rocks Estate. I would spend hours up at the top of the Rock's hill lost in my imagintation. I would go on adventures through the woods, climb trees until I felt on top of the world. Up at the Rock's I was untouchable!
Having the the Christmas trees surround me I felt like I was a wild, majestic forest. A forest that surronds you with the smell of tree sap and fresh air.
